Meet Laura: Skoda's new digital assistant

► Another new digital frient
► In the Kamiq and Scala with range-topping infotainment
► Will be upgraded via OTA updates

Hey Google, Alexa, Mercedes, Siri, Bixby – meet Laura, the new digital assistant from Skoda. The Czech brand revealed the new digital assistant  this week, and says it’ll premiere in the Kamiq SUV and the Scala, too.

Another one?

It’s getting quite crowded isn’t it? Either way, the new assistant will be available as an option in the flagship Amundsen infotainment system, and like Mercedes’ system it claims to understand natural speech. In theory, that means you won’t need to memorise strange, robotic commands like you would in previous-gen systems – but we’ll believe that when we hear it…

Skoda says a simple ‘Okay Laura,’ will be all that’s needed to the get assistant working – and it’ll also support six languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and of course, Czech.

It’ll always be online since it uses an eSim, and just like products from Tesla, Google and Mercedes, it’ll be updated and grown with updates over-the-air (OTA). The possibility of counterpart smartphone apps is also on the horizon, as they’ll allow Skoda owners to continue the rapport once they’ve left their vehicle.

We’ll update this article when we know more – and certainly when we get to try the new system.
