Volkswagen hasn’t had the greatest run of good press lately, so here’s a little light relief for, well, everybody.

The firm is currently plugging its Trailer Assist feature on the Passat – a semi-autonomous parking system intended to help you when backing up your caravan or other wheeled attachment. But its means of doing so is entertainingly unconventional.

It involves a sacrificial VW Polo (we’re guessing), some stunt drivers and a lot of bemused looking members of the public/extras. We could say more, but really you should just sacrifice a few minutes to watch the behind the scenes video embedded above. It made us laugh, anyway.

Of course, this isn’t the first time VW has messed about with unusual trailer arrangements – if you haven’t seen the famous ‘fifth wheel’ Beetle and Camper check it out on YouTube here.
