It sounds like the answer to millions of drivers’ prayers: a car that parks itself. But is it too good to be true? Watch our video to find out, as we test the self-parking system in the VW Tiguan.

Turn the system on and it monitors the side of the road to spot a suitable space. Stop alongside, select reverse and let the system do the rest. You still control the pedals, but the self-park system controls the steering for you. It’s quite an eery experience.

But does it work? Watch our video below to find out. It’s the latest in our series of Does It Work? series, where CAR associate editor Tim Pollard tests the latest tech to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got any videos you’d like to share with the world you can publish them directly onto this website. (If you’re having problems viewing this video you may need to update to the latest version which you can do free here.)
