Background
The DS 5 takes the regular Citroen C5 and adds a whole load more style to turn a runabout French family car into something far more tempting. It was also the first Citroen to come with Hybrid4 diesel-electric tech. For more information on the DS 5 (née Citroen DS 5), click on our further stories on the links below.
60sec road test
This is a big, quirky, luxo French car in the truest sense: it's wilfully different and presents an alternative to the hackneyed Germanic/British/Japanese premium competition. You'll certainly stand out in a DS 5, but would you want to? It comes to your priorities. If you desire something fresh and unusual, you'll love it. DS Automobiles knows how to scrub up a humdrum cabin with niceties - details like the (opitonal) watch strap leather seat trim and clocks are feelgood fresh. But is it driving panache you're after? If so, the DS 5 may disappoint...
The one we’d buy
In for a penny, in for a pound... the £32k Prestige trim level gives all the bells and whistles
The one we’d avoid like the plague
Anything purporting to be a performance option would make us nervous
Rivals to consider
Audi A5, BMW 4-series Gran Coupe
For
Fresh style, some of the interior detailing
Against
We just wish it drove as well as it looked...
