► A triumph of composite over taste?

Bespoke carbonfibre company Atelier Vitesse Au Dessus in the US has opened up its doors across the Atlantic and is now accepting customers worldwide.

The composite specialist offers bespoke, complete carbonfibre makeovers for high-end supercars such as the McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Bugatti Veyron. But is it too much? Check out these latest pictures of ‘carbonised’ supercars and tell us in the comments below.

Carbon overload: the Atelier Vitesse Au Dessus makeovers

Imagine the day has finally come and you’ve just taken delivery of your dream supercar. Its spectacular design features luscious curves handcrafted to meet the aerodynamic needs of the big motor that powers it, and it’s finished in an expensive colour you’ve fallen in love with.

Do the world’s wealthiest buyers really need to forego all that and cover exotics in the more blingy types of carbonfibre? Atelier Vitesse Au Dessus thinks so, but we’re not so sure…

Is this a gimmick too far?

To these eyes, yes. While carbonfibre offers weight benefits over metals, we’re not sure you can easily improve on the lightweight structure of a LaFerrari like the one above. Tellingly, the US aftermarket specialist doesn’t quote a weight for its own plastic interpretation.

Even Ferraris don't escape the carbonfibre craze

But there’s no accounting for taste and Atelier Vitesse Au Dessus is confident it’s found a Mansory-shaped hole in the market for exporting its kits worldwide.

It’ll charge $100k-$200k (£64,000 to £128,000) for the privilege. Look out for one of these on the streets of Kensington or Dubai in the coming months…
