Video review: has turbocharging ruined the 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S?

Facelift time for the Porsche 911 Carrera S. Mildly rejigged lights and bumpers, updated infotainment, suspension tweaks… so far, so what. But Porsche has also thrown a new turbocharged engine into the mix.

The pre-makeover car’s charismatic 3.8-litre naturally aspirated lump is gone, replaced by a 414bhp, 369lb ft 3.0-litre twin-turbo. There’s oodles more torque, and it’s far more efficient – but has that come at the expense of throttle response, of driveability, of the old engine’s yowling soundtrack?

Time to find out, as Ben Barry puts the new ‘991.2’ Carrera S through its paces in Tenerife in the video above…
