Watch Kimi Raikkonen’s lawnmower race before British Grand Prix

Former F1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen revealed an unusual pre-race warm-up ahead of the 2014 British Grand Prix, by haring around a grass track on a racing lawnmower.

Drivers are usually encouraged to keep their cars off the grass but as this video shows, the 2007 F1 champ is clearly able to transfer his skill from the tarmac track to the lawn.

Kimi raced against former F1 drivers Martin Brundle, Johnny Herbert and also Anthony Davidson around the grass track in a publicity stunt for Sky’s F1 coverage.

The Iceman Moweth

Whether The Iceman floated the idea of going toe-to-toe on the turf just before the British Grand Prix with his bosses at Ferrari is unclear.

Kimi’s World Rally Championship experience gave him a clear advantage as he blasted around the track, trading paint with his competitors and mastering the wayward back-end of the mower.

F1 insiders say that the Sky team spent some time perfecting the racing line on the mowers before Kimi turned up.

When he did, the F1 star hopped on, sped off and was ‘a complete natural,’ blowing the other contenders into the also-ran category.

Given his performance, Kimi could always retire to the world of speed-mowing. Football stadiums could hire him. He’d get around Wembley in about 10 minutes.
