60sec road test
Jeep might still have a bad rep in some parts of Europe, but this is a clear example of how much things have changed. It's very European. In looks (give or take some American ostentation here and there). In a very comfortable, well appointed cabin. And in the way it drives. Refined 3.0 V6 turbo diesels will be the best bet for Europe (we're not quite sure who over here will be brave enough to choose the SRT V8!) and they provide sufficient acceleration for the class needs. And, unlike some German competition, this thing will perform miracles if you find yourself stuck in the wilderness with some boulders to clamber over on your way to Waitrose.
The one we'd buy
The one we'd avoid like the plague
Rivals to consider
BMW X5, Mercedes M-class, VW Touareg
Cabin well equipped, much more European, drives well
Some plastics still wobble, can't live with best
