60sec road test
The Lexus LC is a striking car: from the moment you first clap eyes on it to the time you slide behind the wheel. It's alternative. It's fresh. It's very Japanese - and a big breath of fresh air if you're used to the staid Germans. The alt-cool vibe continues inside: this couldn't be anything other than a sporting Lexus. Build quality is first-rate throughout, yet this is a sporting cabin with pamper aplenty - just what you'd expect of a Japanese halo car. Choose from LC 500 and LC 500h models, with remarkably different characters. The V8 petrol car is something of a hidden gem: all rorty V8 at speed, with handling fun and long-legged GT creds intact. The hybrid is slightly more complex, and not for all the right reasons. But you pays your money, you takes your choices... Make no mistake, the Lexus LC is a fine GT.
The one we’d buy
The one we’d avoid like the plague
Bit harsh, but we'd rather avoid the LC 500h unless you really must have a hybrid
Rivals to consider
Bentley Continental, BMW 6-series, Mercedes S-class Coupe
Stunning looks, build quality, dramatic cabin, handling, performance of V8
That grille could swallow pedestrians whole! And the woeful, trackpad controlled infotainment system sucks...
