BMW boss hails radical new crossover for 2008

BMW’s chairman today confirmed the X6 crossover vehicle will go into production at the company’s North American plant next year. Norbert Reithofer said it would spearhead a flurry of new products in the next few years. The X6 is designed to mix the best bits of BM’s saloon car range with its X3 and X5 off-roaders – but wrapped in a coupe-inspired design. BMW announced 2006 pre-tax profits of more than £2.7 billion, with revenues up to a record of £33 billion. The group sold 1.37 million vehicles last year, up nearly 4 percent over 2005.
