Renault Laguna Coupé (2008)

Published: 23 August 2007

Looks a bit daring for Renault!

Yes it does. This teaser shot (inset) was flashed up at the launch of the Laguna coupe and CAR Online managed to get a quick shot of it. Renault isn’t releasing any more details of the car until the Frankfurt Motor Show next month, but we've captured the only shot of the car on the web. Renault officials wouldn’t be drawn into naming the car but we will see it in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008, and it will then be launched in production guise at the Paris show next autumn. Drawing on the Fluence concept of 2004 (main image), the Laguna coupe features a teardrop-shaped rear with a pinched bootlid. Hopefully this is a return to form for Renault design; after cars like the Avantime, the French manufacturer has played it far too safe with recent offerings like the mundane Twingo and conservative new Laguna. It's basically a fastback Laguna, and the engines on offer include turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines with 168bhp and 148bhp, rising to a 240bhp all-new 3.0-litre diesel - and the 3.5-litre V6 petrol from the Nissan 350Z. Expect prices to start just north of £20k.
