Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase scooped

Published: 09 November 2010

These are the first shots of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost Extended Wheelbase, a stretched version of the ‘baby’ Rolls. It’s the first of three new additions to the Ghost family – convertible and coupe versions will follow in the next few years.

Won’t a bigger Rolls-Royce Ghost go head-to-head with a Phantom?

You’d think so, but the marketing men and women at Goodwood clearly don’t agree. The Extended Wheelbase version of the Phantom has an extra 250mm between the wheels (nearly ten inches) but a similar stretch applied to the Ghost would take it to within millimetres of the standard Phantom. Expect a slightly less regal five-to-six inch extension.

There’ll be new doors and a new roof but no other bodywork changes, and the 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 – good for 563bhp and 575lb ft – should remain unchanged. The cost of the extra inches? Rolls charges £50,400 to elongate your Phantom, so expect a more affordable £20k charge.
