► Fresh scoope photos winter testing

This is the likely best-selling Volvo S90 trim – the as-yet-unshown R-Design sporty spec level, caught winter testing in Scandinavia.

It’s a few months before the official motor show debut a little later in 2016; originally it was thought to be due at the 2016 Geneva motor show, but we now know that it will appear at a later date.

Our spyshots reveal a more aggressive front-end treatment, similar to the face of the new Volvo XC90 R-Design with a deeper chin spoiler, peppered with additional cooling vents and sportier foglamp housings.

Volvo specs: why this will be the biggest seller

The British importer is predicting that the R-Design trim will make up nearly half – 45% – of all S90 sales in the UK. It’s the Swedes’ answer to BMW M Sport and Audi’s popular S-line trim, a kind of sporty-looking bodykit with extra equipment and other niceties to keep execs happy in the company car park.

Read the full story on the new S90 here. It is due in UK dealerships in mid to late summer, just in time for the new 66-registration on 1 September 2016.
