In the never-ending game of cat-and-mouse that is camoufaging car prototypes, the Swedes seem to have discovered a whole new section to the fancy dress department: covering up their secret new cars in panels that look like they’ve seen service in a war zone.

Volvo XC60: the new 2017 one

Under the Swiss cheese disguise lies the second generation of Volvo’s mid-sized SUV, due to be shown in the middle of 2017.

It’s the fourth model to be spun from Volvo’s Scalable Premium Architecture (SPA), after the XC90 crossover, S90 saloon and V90 estate. Expect a similar range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, and hybrid applications to follow.

This XC60 prototype is registered with 2.0-litre petrol T5 turbo engine delivering some 255bhp. Rumours it’ll run on Emmental are apparently wide of the mark…
