BMW 5-series (2010) spotted at Tour de France

Last week a CAR reader papped the new Rolls-Royce Ghost on a stage of the Tour de France – and over the weekend a second reader responded with news that a whole fleet of BMW group cars were in fact testing on Mont Ventoux.

Thorkil K.Iversen sent in these shots of next year’s new 2010 BMW 5-series testing ahead of the car’s unveiling later in 2009.

A busy day in the French Alps

‘The day at Mount Ventoux was very busy for the BMW development people,’ Iversen tells us. ‘The same day they showed the new small Rolls, I saw the new 5-series get stuck in the traffic direct at the summit.

‘Driving down the hill, a row of three new Mini crossover models came driving upwards. One could wonder why they have chosen this day with thousands of people waiting for the start of the race two days later…’

A publicity stunt perchance? Several CAR commentators have already suggested as much in the comments on the Rolls scoop. Or perhaps some BMW group engineers hanker after an alternative career as Lance Armstrong wannabes!
