The Levorg is Subaru’s replacement for the long serving Legacy and straddles the border between estate and crossover. It adds an extra helping of versatility and distances itself from Subaru’s rallying heritage by making for a leftfield addition to the British Touring Car Championship. 60sec road test
Subaru is modest in only targeting 500 sales a year in the UK with its new Levorg and it’s a fair admission. It’s a refreshingly different addition to the market and has matured suitably along with the company’s rally fans. There is nothing remarkable in the Levorg’s drivetrain and its extra refinement has dialled out much of the Subaru character, but similarly there is nothing offensive in its turbocharged 1.6-litre motor mated to a CVT. Overall it doesn’t try to mix itself with the established cars in this segment and for that it is rather endearing.
The one we’d buy
There’s no choice, so it’ll have to be the 1.6i GT
The one we’d avoid like the plague
That’s a tad harsh
Rivals to consider
Mazda 6, Seat Leon ST, Volvo V60
Well-equipped and WRX STI design carries over
Floaty steering is everything a Scooby shouldn’t be…
