Background
It must have seemed such a great idea at the time. Take several leaves from the Fiat 500, Mini and Citroen DS3’s books and watch as fashionistas flock to the showroom. For more information on the Vauxhall Adam, click on our further stories on the links below.
60sec road test
Vauxhall says there are over a million ways to customise the Adam, from wheel clip-ons, decals and minute interior trim variations to a suite of colours named with the forced hilarity of a rictus grin. See ‘I’ll be Black’, ‘Purple Fiction, ‘James Blonde’ and ‘Saturday White Fever’ for details. Somewhere beneath all the marketing veneer is a small hatch that’s okay but not great. Ride quality is patchy, and dynamically there’s nothing to get excited about, although in fairness that’s perhaps not a vital factor for its target audience. To the Adam’s credit, it’s packed with kit, affordable to insure and the interior is one of the company’s better recent efforts. What’s more, the introduction of Vauxhall’s smooth new three-pot petrol in 2014 gave the Adam the engine it was crying out for from the start.
