60sec road test
The Touran fulfils its task as a compact seven-seater people carrier well enough. The middle row of seats slide fore and aft, fold down or can be taken out altogether while folding down the centre seat turns it into a makeshift table with cupholders. Alternatively, the Touran can be ordered with the rearmost seats deleted for the best possible boot space. Problem is, the Touran’s deathly dull even by MPV standards. We’d take a Ford C-Max instead.
The one we’d buy
2.0 TDI Bluemotion
The one we’d avoid like the plague
1.2 TSI might struggle a little if you’re rolling fully loaded
Rivals to consider
Citroen C4 Picasso, Ford C-Max, Kia Carens
Decent engines, drives well, seven seats standard
As dull as it looks, interior feels dated
