Background

The S90 is a new badge for Volvo - sitting in the 90-range alongside the XC90 crossover and V90 wagon. Volvo offers three powertrains: two 2.0-litre diesels, in 187bhp and 232bhp flavours, and the flagship T8 petrol-electric hybrid.

60sec road test

The S90 is dripping with technology and can even drive itself, using Pilot Assist at lower speeds. But the technology is cleverly integrated and rarely feels like it dominates proceedings - there's a certain Swedish laidback vibe to this form of luxury motoring. It's helped in no small part by the stunning cabin - lifted lock, stock and barrel from the XC90 SUV. Prices start around £33,000 in the UK and climb towards the top of the range and its T8 TwinEngine hybrid version.
