► Smart Fortwo Brabus soft-top
► Another Geneva show debut
► It’s a warm-up act for full Brabus model
You don’t have to be a Bugatti Chiron to make a splash at the 2016 Geneva motor show: fun can be had in more modest packages too, says Smart, whose Fortwo Cabrio Brabus special edition made its world debut.
This car is not about outright performance: with just 89bhp, the go-faster baby convertible comes with a six-speed Twinamic dual-clutch gearbox and a bigger 35-litre fuel tank to cope with all the inevitable hooning you’ll be doing.
So is this the full Brabus Smart?
Nope. That car comes in autumn 2016 – this is more of a cosmetic Brabus special edition.
The car in Geneva has an unusual matt light blue paintwork across the bodywork and Tridion safety cell, contrasting with smoked alloy wheels of a larger, 17-inch diameter.
The Smart Fortwo cabrio range is priced from €15,655 (£12k) on the Continent and sales begin in March 2016. You’ll need double that for the Brabus edition, though; it will cost from €29,950 (£23k) when sales start in May. It won’t be sold in the UK.
Brabus styling kits for all Smarts
It’s not just the open-top Smart at the Geneva motor show: the Böblingen tuners have been fettling humdrum Smart Fortwo and Forfour models as well, cosmetically at least.
Called the Brabus Sports package, it applies a host of styling mods to more cooking Smarts – with a particularly butch-looking rear diffuser. In Germany, the Sports kit adds around €2000 to the sticker price. No word yet on UK prices.
This design pack is available on all new-era 70bhp and 88bhp Smarts.
