Aston Martin’s next DBS (2012) CAR spy video

At first glance, taped-up and in a garish gold hue, it looks like some Mansory monstrosity, but this is Aston Martin’s new DBS-replacing V12 supercar commuting in the Midlands. Snapped last night from CAR’s very own long-term Lotus Evora S, it’s our closest look yet at the new range-topping Aston Martin that will be shown this summer and go on sale later in 2012.

The next Aston Martin DBS: the lowdown

With the million-pound One-77 now sold out, this replacement for the DBS will become Aston Martin’s flagship supercar – but it will be influenced stylistically by the One-77. The car we spotted was still disguised, but there was only a minimal amount of tape hiding the new C-shaped taillights, curvaceous boot and swoopier rear haunches. The nose features Virage-alike lights and a jutting spoiler, while the sides are more heavily sculpted. Essentially, it’ll look exactly like the Project AM310 concept car that Aston Martin recently revealed at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance.

What about under the new Aston Martin’s skin?

Aston Martin’s familiar VH aluminium architecture remains (besides the One-77, it underpins all the V8 and V12 models) but it’s been fettled, and according to Aston insiders there’s life in the platform for several more years. The 6.0-litre V12 remains too, but again it’s been updated and we hear it’ll be boasted from today 510bhp to somewhere in the region of 550bhp.

Most important for Aston Martin will be revamping the interior, where the switchgear, ergonomics and quality has lagged behind rivals – again it’ll be influenced by the One-77.
It might not be an all-new car, but it’s different enough from the current DBS that the name will be changed. A new moniker may be chosen, but as reported before, Aston has used a rich array of names of its life so an old name, such as Vanquish, could be revived.

RE: Aston Martin’s next DBS (2012) CAR spy video

While growing up i use to love Aston Martins, just hearing an original Vantage LM600 with it's awesome V8 superchargers rumbling use to give me goose bumps.
This 'new' DBS is another good looking car from Aston Martin but to be honest, Aston has been 'milking this cow' (DB9) for too long now and time has come to bring out something new and fresh, something that will be more than appearence, facade and glamour but substantially a class leading prospect, a real tour de force.

Currently it feels like all Ulrich Bez is interested in is making money and milking his clients that are willing to pay almost any sum for cars that to be honest are not that special anymore.

Car,

not only are you behind the Aston, you are behind everyone else in the scoop deparetment as well. The car was unveiled last weekend at Villa d'Este, (all be it in 'Concept' form.)! Where was your coverage?

Got to say I am really unsure about it. The concept had the slight whiff of 'Italian styling house tries an Aston Concept' maybe by Giguaro. It did not quite seem real. Did not like the Carbon fibre add on parts. The bach haunches appear to sink down too low at the rear, and dare I say it, but the track looks a little narrow, and the car a little 'perched on its wheels'. Interior was nice though.

Seems too little too late for me. Love Astons, always have, but this did not have the prescence of the Vanquish. Time for someone else to have a go?

Judging by the Villa d'Este "concept" car I'm tempted to bemoan the glory days of Ian Callum's and Henrik Fisker's assured lines and shapes. But then again the former is now in charge of a company closer to my heart, while the latter is nowadays penning overstyled salad designs à la Fisker Atlantic. That doesn't mean though that Marek Reichman is getting away scot-free - that AM 08/15 really is far too close to overblinged Mansory mayhem and shockingly far removed from the sheer class of the first generation of VH platform cars. has Dr Bez lost his magic touch?

Is that a piece of cardboard keeping the glovebox closed on the left?

There is far better footage of the Project AM 310 car, including the interior, all over the web.  Why has Car not shown it, or even reproduced a still rather than go for this rather sub-standard handi-cam shot?  It makes the car look narrow and drab.
