We’ve seen it all now. Only a few weeks ago BMW wowed us with the very futuristic BMW Vision Next 100 concept. Now Munich’s marked its centenary with a special edition 7-series – which comes with a free ink pen…

Developed in collaboration with Mont Blanc (itself 110 years old), the BMW Centennial Fountain Pen is the write kind of partnership for the fashionista, being based on the desirable Meisterstück Skeleton Fountain Pen.

Apparently BMW’s design department had a hand in its development. Which explains why the surfacing on the pen is ‘reminiscent of the quilted seat surfaces in a woven look featured by the BMW 7 Series centennial model.’

Flame surfacing on pens? Whatever next!

It gets worse. It’s colour-coded to match the car’s Centennial Blue metallic paint and the rhodium-plated nib bears an engraving of the stitching on the Merino leather seats.

Reports that the Mont Blanc pen can write autonomously, hands-free with gesture control remain unproven.

And the car?

Well, the BMW Individual M760Li xDrive V12 The Next 100 Years edition is blisteringly fast, as well as destined to remain a collector’s obscurity. Only 100 will be made and each one is powered by the 6.6-litre V12 developing 602bhp. Which explains why it can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.7sec.
