Hot on the heels of its Seat equivalent, Cupra has tweaked the Ateca SUV for 2020.

The copper-trimmed crossover was the brand’s first-ever model under the new brand name, and has had a light nip and tuck here and there, stealing some tech from the Cupra Leon.

The biggest difference is at the front, with a more aggressive front apron and revised full LED headlights. New wheels made out of a machined alloy are available with a copper trimming – par for the course for Cupra – and full LED rear lights.

Inside, the revamped Ateca also benefits from the steering wheel, 9.2-inch infotainment system and digital display from the latest Cupra Leon range. Along with that, new sports seats with Alcantara are standard kit.

The powertrain remains the same, so there’s a 297bhp 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder under the bonnet, with power sent via a seven-seed dual clutch gearbox to all four wheels. That means the Cupra Ateca is capable of a 4.9sec sprint to 62mpg and a top speed of 153mph. No plug-in hybrid variant like the Leon or upcoming Formentor.

The Ateca is still a key part of Cupra’s growth as the brand expands into other market segments – the hot SUV makes up 15 per cent of the Ateca’s overall sales mix.

Prices are yet to be revealed for the 2020 model year, but Cupra says the refreshed Ateca will go on sale in the ‘third quarter’ of the year.
