Say hello to the most extreme Jaguar XE ever. This is the XE SV Project 8, a V8-powered exec saloon that steals the F-Type SVR’s title as the most powerful road-legal Jag ever made.

The Project 8 is a be-winged XE with a 592bhp 5.0-litre V8, all-wheel drive and a steroid-addled body kit. It’s just had its first test at the Nürburgring, hidden behind some swirly camouflage; is it just us that can see hints of Australian V8 supercars in its shape?

It’s the next in a line of madcap limited edition cars made by the boffins at Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division.

Performance specs aren’t known yet – we’ll find out more on the 28th June – but we can confirm that Project 8 features all-wheel drive like the F-Type SVR.

CAR also understands that this isn’t a precursor to the much-rumoured XE SVR, as a Jaguar spokesperson told us that it currently had no plans to build a high-performance XE to take on cars like the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63.

Just 300 Project 8 cars will be built, ensuring its collector status, and we’ll find out more at the end of June.
