Ford Mustang GT500 – Gone in 60 Seconds

Published: 20 October 2008 Updated: 26 January 2015

Ranking: 6

Year of release: 2000

The car: Ford Mustang GT500

Why it’s special: Because Hollywood came up with an excuse to make a film about 50 of the hottest cars around.

Best bit: If it’s not Angelina Jolie purring about high heels and pink underwear, then it’s got to be the final chase between Eleanor and the entire LAPD.

Pub fact: Eleven GT500s were built for the film, but all were actually fastbacks and most were automatics, too.

Plot overview: Ribisi, brother of retired superthief Cage, fouls up in an especially stupid way for British nasty Eccleston. To persuade the mob boss not to kill his brother, Cage gets back into the criminal life and assembles a team (Duvall, Jones, Jolie, et al) to steal 50 luxury cars in one night.

For: A Ford Mustang that can almost rival Bullitt

Against: A bit bling for some tastes

CAR verdict: You could call Eleanor tacky, but we love this leading lady
