Updated: 08 March 2017

► New lights and bumpers for the 4er
► Plus upgrade interior, firmer chassis
► Arrives April, priced from £32,525

The 2017 BMW 4-series updates would probably pass you by if they weren’t pointed out, but as it’s our civic duty to do so – here’s the lowdown on what you can expect to find.

Examine the examples on BMW’s 2017 Geneva motor show stand closely, and you’ll spot new headlights – which have moved to a Bi-LED set-up – and a slightly reshaped front bumper.

The rear is also treated to an LED set-up for its signature L-shaped back light cluster.

There must be more?

Well, yes. But it’s still hardly the stuff of daydreams.

On the inside there are new digital instruments, which change colour depending on your driving mode. Plus an updated version of iDrive and new upholstery trims to go with a revised range of paint options.

The suspension set-up has also been tweaked. It’s now firmer, without – BMW claims – any loss in ride quality.

Finally, the engine range now comprises solely of BMW TwinPower turbo units, with three petrols and three diesels available.

How will I know when it’s on sale?

By looking very, very carefully? No. seriously – it already is, with first UK deliveries taking place in April 2017.
