Subaru Technica International has gotten its hands on the Viziv Performance concept, creating an STI version.
Teaser pics of the Viziv Performance STI concept have dropped online, with the real thing set for a full unveil at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon. Subaru says that the concept ’embodies the brand’s vision for the future of making cars that deliver enjoyment and peace of mind to its customers.’
No other details are given as of yet, but we’re sure to hear more when the covers come off that the Auto Salon – one of Japan’s largest modified car shows.
Our first look at the Viziv Performance Concept
You’re looking at the new Subaru Viziv Performance Concept, the highlight of the Subaru stand at the 2017 Tokyo motor show. It’s a saloon styling exercise that hints at what the next generation of family cars is going to look like.
Behind its aggressive front grille is a nicely chiselled four-door fastback saloon, with hints of the Lamborghini Urus – clearly Subaru’s design team has a taste for Italian exotica. Those arches are pure Gandini, for a start.
It’s sized between the previous-generation Impreza and Legacy saloon, with a length of 4630mm, width of 1950mm and wheelbase of 2730mm. Under the concept’s skin, you get the classic Boxer flat-four, and symetrical four-wheel drive system.
With added driver aids…
With these ingredients, and running at the right state of tune, the Viziv Performance concept would be a great deal of fun, and its maker describes it as being focused on ‘driving enjoyment’.
Behind that, there’s an updated suite of Subaru’s driver aids, known as EyeSight, which hints at an earlier, rather than later, launch. The driver aids are due to hit the block in 2020, and we suspect that the Viziv – or a development of it – will be the vehicle they debut in.
The name, by the way, stems from the ‘vision for innovation’, and will be attached to three show concepts. We reckon that Subaru Legacy trips off the tongue a whole lot easier.
More importantly than this, Subaru says that this styling theme will end up on the next generation of SUVs, including a seven-seater. We can wait for the SUVs, but the fastback saloon looks promising.
And Subaru’s take?
‘Subaru Viziv Performance Concept is a sports sedan concept model that embodies the brand’s vision for the future of making cars that deliver Enjoyment and Peace of mind to its customers.
‘With the installation of advanced driver-assist technology, with EyeSight at its core, in anticipation of the future popularisation of self-driving vehicles, in a sports sedan body that will encourage the active enjoyment of driving, it offers a worldview of driving with Enjoyment and Peace of mind that is typical of Subaru.’
