It’s not your usual competition prize: Jaguar surprised Wimbledon fans by giving one lucky pair a ride to SW19 in an XE chauffeured by American former tennis champ John McEnroe.

The British car maker has become a major sponsor at the All England Club’s summer tournament and laid on the publicity stunt as part of its #FeelWimbledon campaign.

Boring… just another JLR publicity stunt!

On one level, yes. But you have to admire the chutzpah of hiring the famously feisty three-time Wimbledon champion to drive two lucky punters to the tournament in the new XE

Londoners Tom Payne and Nick Webb won the VIP tickets in a competition and attended the quarter finals. Their actual chauffeur then jumped out and was replaced by McEnroe. Jaguar says it fitted biometric gear to its guests, whose pulses shot up 60% to 93bpm when the tennis star took the wheel.

Watch Jag’s XE publicity stunt in the video below, filmed on hidden cameras onboard. You decide if heart rates shot up because of the new Jaguar or McEnroe’s erratic driving, what with the steering wheel on the right and that!
