Ex-F1 ace creates ultimate Scalextric circuit

► Circuit to be auctioned for charity

The inner kid inside all of us here at CAR got slightly excited when we saw this. Not only has Martin Brundle designed a Scalextric circuit based on iconic corners from the 2015 F1 calendar, but it’s up for grabs at auction.

The Scalextric Ultimate 2015  track (its official name) has been constructed by Scalextric brand owner Hornby Hobbies. It’s the longest circuit the company’s ever created, measuring 45m long with 177 pieces. Despite its name, it’s not the ultimate or longest slot car circuit ever built full stop, with that record being held by former CAR columnist (and occasional TV presenter) James May, measuring 2.9 miles. Not something you could box up and carry home.

What corners make up the circuit?

Martin Brundle was challenged by Hornby to create his own dream circuit using corners from tracks featuring on the 2015 F1 calendar. Some of the iconic curves to make the cut include:

  • Ascari Chicane at Monza, Italy
  • Casino Square in Monaco
  • The wall of champions at Montreal, Canada
  • Copse Corner at Silverstone
  • The Marina Complex in Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi

Classic Car Auctions will be auctioning off Martin Brundle’s dream circuit as part of the CarFest South festival at Laverstoke Park Farm on 30 August 2015. Hornby Hobbies says all proceeds will go to Children In Need.
