I don’t know why they measure boot space in litres. If it was in pints, you could picture the boot full of milk bottles, though they wouldn’t pack very efficiently because of the curved necks. Much better would be to use something you could pack densely, like packs of frozen sweetcorn. As it happens, a 500g bag of frozen sweetcorn fits neatly into a one-pint milk bottle, making conversion easy.

So although our Leon Cupra Estate has room for 1091 pints of frozen sweetcorn the rake of that window makes it a long but shallow boot. Big, boxy luggage would be a real squeeze, and the travel cage for our dog Pingu only just squeezes in with millimetres to spare. My advice is, don’t buy this car if you want to move furniture.
