Whilst BMW has announced a new 7-series arriving in 2016, there are no official plans for a high-performance M7 variant. But fear not speed-hungry 7-series fans, the upcoming Alpina B7 has been spotted near the Nurburgring.

Alpina B7: what can we expect?

Alpina has yet to reveal the B7 officially, or announce its vital stats, although the V8 biturbo used in B6 special editions can produce as much as 590bhp; don’t be surprised to see the B7’s output climb north of 600bhp.

In typical Alpina style, exterior changes are very much on the subtle side on the new B7, limited to a fresh front and rear spoiler, and larger, wider wheels to hold down what’s likely to be a hefty power output.

What was the old B7 like?

The previous model featured a 4.4 litre V8 with a power output of 540bhp and an enormous 538lb ft of torque.

To tame the beast, Alpina fitted a four-wheel-drive system to give it a fighting chance of actually using all that power. Expect to see a similar set up on this new B7.
