Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet: the lowdown

After nearly a year of waiting, Porsche has finally gotten around to whipping the roof off the 911 Turbo. Our sources in Germany have snatched these photos of finished production cars testing shorn of their disguise – a week before the official shots are released. We already love the 911 Turbo coupe’s blistering acceleration, pinpoint handling and use-anywhere performance, so the soft-top should become one of the most exciting fast convertibles of 2007.

911 Turbo + soft-top = fastest convertible around, right?

The arrival of the convertible means that the Turbo can now make the transition from practical supercar to Beverly Hills scene machine. Don’t expect much difference in the performance figures compared to the tin-top, save for a couple of miles per hour off the top speed and tenths off the 0-60mph sprint. But considering the Turbo coupe tops out at 192mph and scorches to 62mph in 3.7 seconds, the convertible is right up there with the Ferrari F430 Spider and Bentley Continental GTC as the fastest convertibles on sale today.

When can I buy a 911 Turbo Cabriolet?

Porsche will release the first official shots of the car next week, and CAR Online should be driving the car in June. The first customer cars will go on sale soon after, although UK buyers will have to wait until September to get behind the wheel. What’s next for Porsche? Expect a focused GT2 to be shown at this autumn’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
