Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro, legendary designers and founders of styling house GFG Style, have teased a new electric saloon car concept ahead of its debut at the 2018 Geneva show.

The high-performance and autonomous saloon car will be shown in full at the Swiss show, but GFG Style have dropped a few details about its new creation. The car is also a commemoration to Giorgetto’s 80th birthday.

Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the car as a saloon, rather than an on-trend SUV. ‘The prototype is a 4-seater electric sedan combining luxury, sportiness, space and dynamism’, says Giorgetto.

‘Now that the market is pervaded by this form of architecture [the SUV], I would like to continue to provoke, by returning to the classic theme of elegance, with the addition of some very innovative solutions,’ he added.

How innovative? Well, the as-yet unnamed electric saloon car uses tech from Envision, a green energy company that also dabbles in ‘Internet of Things’ tech. That means the car learns its environment and ‘connects to a broader energy ecosystem’, and uses the brand’s EnOS open-platform software.

The partnership explains that its new concept is the future as it integrates the car into the idea of the ‘smart city’ through the IoT tech. That, plus the electric powertrain points to Envision’s ‘commitment to create a sustainable future’, according to the energy company’s CEO, Lei Zhang.

We’ll know more about the new concept car when the covers come off at the 2018 Geneva show.
