Infiniti Prototype 10 electric concept teased again

Monterey Car Week is just days away, and Infiniti says it’ll be marking the occasion with an entirely new concept car. As you’d expect from pretty much any new design in 2018, we know that it’ll use an all-electric powertrain and be called the Prototype 10.

A statement released at the same time as this rather vague teaser image states ‘the new concept is a physical representation of Infiniti’s electrified performance future.’ Why? Because the brand is going to electrify all its new road cars from 2021 onwards.

So what will the electric Infiniti look like?

Infiniti is revealing the new concept properly on 23 August, but these first teaser images give a few clues about how the car will look. Interestingly, we know it’s going to be a single-seater, and the top-down image (below) reveals how the new car will channel the looks of a 1950s racer – blended with a futuristic powertrain, of course.

Although it’s just a concept, it will be the first Infiniti revealed under the brand’s new executive design director, Karin Habib formerly of BMW fame – so some exterior cues could point toward the brand’s forthcoming road cars.

In a statement, the company said: ‘According to Karim Habib, Infiniti executive design director the Prototype 10 echoes the layout and design of some of the most evocative car designs of all time, where power was celebrated through high-powered single-seat competition cars. The new concept speaks of an electrified future, something which is reflected in its form and details. It is appropriate that we found inspiration in an optimistic bygone era in which cars were characterised by the simple love of driving.’

Infiniti has previous when it comes to blending the old and the new; at last year’s Pebble Beach event, the brand revealed the retro-modern Prototype 9 racer, again driven by an all-electric powertrain.

Stay tuned for more on the Infiniti Prototype 10 concept car in the coming days.
