Porsche Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS (2014) first official pictures

The Porsche Cayman GTS and its soft-top doppelgänger, the Boxster GTS, take the fight to their 911 big brother like no Porsche sports car before.

Thanks to a respective 15bhp power hike from their 3.4-litre flat-six engines, the GTS twins shave precious tenths of their 0-62mph time, with the Cayman arriving in 4.6sec (when specced with the PDK paddeshifter gearbox), and the Boxster in 4.7sec.

The respective top speeds are 177mph and 174mph. But forget the v-maxes  – these GTS models are 0.3sec quicker to 62mph than their ‘S’ stablemates, and only  tenth off a manual-‘box 911 Carrera S!

What else makes the Porsche Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS the ultimate Porsche sports cars?

‘Carrera’ 20in alloy wheels are fitted as standard, instead of the Cayman S and Boxster S 19s. A subtle bodykit adds extra aggression and better aerodynamic stability: note the sharper 918 Spyder-style bumpers and tweaked rear bumper with diffuser vanes. Darker headlights turn up the menace, and you can choose a sports chassis option with a 20mm ride height drop for both cars.

Inside, some Alcantara upholstery is used to differentiate the two-seat cabins of the 335bhp Cayman GTS and 325bhp Boxster GTS from lesser mid-engined Porsches. Porsche Active Stability Management, which allows the selection of various ride behaviour settings, is fitted as standard – it’s usually a £971 option.

How much do I pay to bait 911 drivers in my GTS?

Porsche charges a steep £55,397 for the Cayman GTS, and asks £52,879 for the Boxster GTS. For the Cayman, that’s a £4674 hike; for the Boxster, a £4845 premium over the 15bhp less powerful ‘S’ models, which remain on sale. The GTS twins are on sale now. Never mind F-type and SLK: look out, 911…
