Driving up the Stelvio Pass at night… with no lights!

We’ve tested night vision before in our Does It Work? video series, but today we publish a new video of Merc’s infra-red cameras at work – on the Stelvio Pass in the dark.

Friend of CAR Magazine Jeremy Hart takes a new Mercedes E-class saloon up the Italian mountain pass close to the Swiss border in pitch black. With nothing but the Merc’s night vision system to guide him up the mountain.

Crazy? Sounds it. But we took a safety car up with us for protection and – as you’ll see in the video player below – the Mercedes Night View Assist Plus works remarkably well, turning night into day. The £1150 cost of the option might deter some in the showroom, but we’d predict systems like this will continue to cascade down to mainstream cars.

It’s tomorrow’s world, today.
