The never-ending onslaught of limited-edition Porsche 911 models is set to continue, with a 991.2-generation Speedster model expected to be the next in line.

CAR understands that a new Speedster model is expected to grace the Porsche stand at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show.

Remember the Speedster name? It’s been in service since the Porsche 356 that originally bore the name, and has been regularly wheeled out as a collector’s edition convertible ever since.

More recently, it’s been seen as a last hurrah of the generation of 911 it’s based on, which would tally in this case, considering the 992-generation 911 is thought to be only around two years away from production.

We weren’t very keen on the last one; when we tested the 997-generation Speedster back in 2010, we worked out that ‘an £83,493 Carrera GTS Cabriolet is just a powerful, pretty much the same to drive, yet costs £60k less. Porsche will sell every one – has sold every one – but that doesn’t mean it’s a particularly good car or one we should celebrate.’

Still, if the new Speedster were to arrive at the 2017 Frankfurt show, expect it to have a big bottom, a unique body kit and perhaps even a tasty set of Fuchs wheels.
