Subaru has unveiled its rugged-looking 4×4 concept car at the 2016 Geneva motor show.

Called the Subaru XV Concept, it does exactly what it says on the tin and previews the next-generation XV small SUV production car.

The company says that the concept ’embodies Subaru’s next-generation ‘DYNAMIC X SOLID’ design philosophy’. Sounds a bit like a London-based pirate radio station to us.

You can read CAR’s slightly underwhelmed verdict on the current Subaru XV here.

In line with its rugged intents, the XV features body cladding to prevent against dents and scrapes. Other highlights include 19-in alloy wheels, a newly developed paint that’s supposed to emulate glacier ice and orange highlights.

The angular styling isn’t far removed from the Impreza five-door concept shown at Tokyo 2015; small wonder, since the next XV is expected to share its platform with the new generation of Impreza family.
