Parkers – the definitive resource for car buying advice in the UK – has partnered with CAR magazine to bring you the award for the Best Fun Car and Best New Car finance in its prestigious New Car Awards 2024. The winner is the Alpine A110, and is one of a total of 18 award winners revealed today.
The Best Fun Car, the Alpine A110, was a surprisingly clear-cut winner given the strength of some impressive newcomers launched this year. But if there’s one thing we have to say about the Alpine, it’s that it’s wearing its years well, and as rivals are now considerably more expensive, it’s looking more appealing than ever.

For the Alpine, lightness remains the key to its brilliant and enduring appeal. Forget the new R version and stick to the entry-level model and you won’t go wrong. Few fast cars deliver such delicacy of response and all-round dynamic brilliance, and the fact it’s relatively affordable makes it even better.
Parkers editor Keith Adams explained: ‘Another year and another win for the Alpine A110. I don’t apologise for our team not picking one of its much-fancied newer rivals – this is a delicate, lovely, fun car that still leads the way for driver feedback.
‘It’s far lighter than most sports cars out there so it’s still stonkingly quick off the blocks despite its relatively modest 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine. The best bit? You get the full spectrum of feedback at sane speeds that won’t threaten your licence.’
The winning car has been tested rigorously by the Parkers.co.uk team, which judged the best fun cars cars on a combination of feedback, performance, style, cost-per-month on finance deals and sheer desirability.
Alpine’s parent company Renault also picks up the coveted award for Best New Car Finance. It wins by offering the option of 0% APR (subject to chunky deposit) that you can use to help resist the move to higher interest rates generally by front-loading the deal and reaping 0% APR on a new Renault.
The option of zero-deposit deals is also on the books, and although there’s some APR to pay, it’s still competitive, and you’re not having to worry about trading something in or saving up a deposit during a cost of living crisis.
‘Renault’s always been competitive and flexible in its new-car finance packages, and this is still the case going into 2024,’ said Adams, the editor of Parkers.
‘In this year’s New Car Awards, we’re excited to have integrated electric cars into the mainstream, as they’re becoming so popular. We’ve also picked a great selection of EVs, petrol and hybrid winners by taking what we know about what our users are viewing on Parkers,’ he added.
