Some people prefer heavy cars in winter, even if the science doesn’t always stack up. That thought seems all the more relevant in the age of the overweight EV.

Traction is one of the few advantages of mass, assuming it hasn’t been dissipated over the greater surface area of a massive set of tyres.

At 2310kg this Genesis is far from the worst offender, and it has ploughed through this winter’s appalling weather with utter composure. Despite snow, standing water, potholes bigger than any pot I own and deep, wet piles of leaf mulch the brilliant AWD drivetrain has aligned torque to conditions with a speed and accuracy engines can’t match. It’s wonderfully low on stress.
