60sec road test
The Vantage is the entry point to the world of Aston Martin ownership. The car has been around since 2005, so is positively geriatric in an age where Porsche overhauls its rival 911 every six years. However, Aston has expertly honed the Vantage range with regular updates to the engine and engineering - if not Henrik Fisker's glorious bespoke suit - to keep it competitive. And competitive it feels, as the Vantage is an endearingly good sports car. The V8 feels a little lacking now, but we're big fans of the latest V8 S and the V12 is a rampantly fast brute. The aluminium architecture underpinning the Vantage - dubbed VH in Aston-speak - is continuously being updated, and the Vantage responds in kind. Everything from gearchange to brakes has been fettled and the driving experience is consequently improved. If only the interior didn't feel so old with creaky infotainment systems...
The one we'd buy

Rivals to consider
Still a highly desirable car with the grunt and go to match
Getting on a bit now - and the interior electrics show it
