Doesn’t this look ace? This is Honda’s new NSX GT3 racer, which will be available for customer race teams to buy from 2018.
The NSX GT3 is already a multiple race-winner in the US-based IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship but Honda, JAS Motorsport and M-TEC have made the car eligible for several race series, including the Nurburgring 24 Hour race, Australian GT Championshop and Pirelli World Challenge.
It’s powered by the same 3.5-litre V6 as the regular production car; the block, heads, crankshaft, pistons and dry-sump lubrication system are all used in the production NSX. Still, the GT3 cars go without the hybrid motors of the production model – it would add too much weight and, frankly, it would just be cheating, wouldn’t it?
Power is sent through a six-speed sequential ‘box. Six-piston Brembos at the front and four-piston ones at the rear help it stop and the full race-spec bodykit should keep it flat no matter where it’s raced in the world.
‘We have already seen the quality of the car proven by its victories in the USA and its ability to convincingly lead the Daytona 24 Hours on its series debut,’ said boss of motorsport at Honda Europe, Robert Watherston. ‘With the customer support of Honda, JAS Motorsport, HPD and Mugen, we look forward to seeing the NSX fighting for victory in the most prestigious GT3 races in the world.’
So, how much? From €465,000 (around £416k), but that’s for the car and little else. You’ll have to pay extra for extra options, race support or training from JAS Motorsport.
