Mercedes’ all-electric EQ brand is slowly hotting up, with its first production car – the EQC – heading for its debut in September. This new EQ Silver Arrow concept it here to whet our appetite.

The new concept is designed to smash together Merc’s future and its history, so this car is designed as a homage to the record-breaking W125 Silver Arrow.

The 5.3m long, 1m tall EQ Silver Arrow blends clean surfaces with slim LED headlights, at the front, an aerodynamic bodyshell, recessed EQ badging and two extending rear spoilers that act as air brakes. The wildest exterior detail has to be the 168-spoke, 25-inch wheels that are painted in rose gold.

Get in via the folding canopy into a cockpit bathed in saddle brown leather, brushed aluminium and solid walnut wood. Merc’s ‘Airscarf’ neck heater is incorporated into the contoured driver’s seat and you’re clamped in via a four-point harness.

You’ll be glad of the racing harness, given the EQ Silver Arrow’s powerplant. As expected, the concept is all-electric, uses an 80kWh battery and a claimed 249 miles of range on WLTP tests. It’s potent, too, as it cranks out 740bhp – even more than Audi’s PB18 concept car.
