60sec road test
These seven-seater crossovers are a popular breed for families who wouldn’t be seen dead in a people carrier. And we can see why. They afford all the space, practicality and raised ride height of an MPV with an added twist of go-anywhere ambition. The Sorento is no different. The cabin is echoingly roomy and ready for the rough and tumble of everyday driving, but the experience is a bit old-school Korean 4x4. It can’t match the polish of a Disco Sport, say, although the large 2.2 diesel has plenty of oomph. Top of the range models now have Lex Steer, which lets you thumb in your chosen power assistance to let you twirl the wheel with your little finger or beef it up for sportier responses. Just remember a new Sorento is due in showrooms soon; this model is on run-out now.
